What is Juniper?
Juniper is a neighborhood data explorer. It maps U.S. Census and federal data — demographics, housing, economics, climate, and risk — across all 50 states, 3,000+ counties, 33,000+ ZIP codes, and 80,000+ census tracts, so you can understand an area before you invest, move, or build.
Where does the data come from?
From public and government sources, including the U.S. Census Bureau (American Community Survey), FEMA, the EPA, HUD, the FHFA, and NOAA climate normals, plus points of interest from OpenStreetMap. Every metric lists its source on the Data Sources page.
What geographic levels can I explore?
Four: state, county, ZIP code (ZCTA), and census tract. Tracts are the most granular — roughly neighborhood-sized — and are where Juniper's detail is richest.
Is Juniper free?
Yes — you can explore the map and core metrics like population, median age, and density for free. A premium tier unlocks the full metric catalog and detailed area reports. Premium is launching soon; join the waitlist to lock in a founding-member discount.
How current and accurate is the data?
Juniper aggregates the most recent public releases from each source. Because it draws on third-party and government datasets, figures can carry the delays or revisions of their origin. Treat it as market research, not an appraisal.
Can I use Juniper to screen tenants or make housing decisions?
No. Juniper is not a consumer reporting agency, and its data may not be used for tenant screening, lending, insurance, or any decision covered by the Fair Credit Reporting Act, nor for any purpose prohibited by the Fair Housing Act. It is for informational market research only.
How do I look up a specific neighborhood?
Search a city, ZIP, or address in the explorer, or click any area on the map and drill down to the tract level. You can also open a full report for a tract, ZIP, or county.
